Prerequisites: PNB 2265 or PNB 2775. Not open for credit to students who have passed PNB 3295 when offered as "Human Physiology in Extreme Environments."

Grading Basis: Graded

Environmental stimuli as drivers of body function, failure, and death, highlighting physiological responses to maintain fluid, electrolyte, and metabolic homeostasis. Analysis of basic and applied research reporting on the effects of altitude (climbing and diving), temperature (heat and cold stress), space travel (microgravity), and associated pathologies. Emphasis on physiological patterns, endpoints, clinical reasoning and interventions.
