An introduction to the global cycles of carbon, oxygen, nitrogen, sulfur, phosphorus, and trace metals that regulate Earth’s climate, ecosystems, and habitability. Topics include the structure and dynamics of modern cycles, the role of human activities in altering them, and their evolution through Earth’s history. Methods for studying cycles, such as simple box modeling and geochemical proxies, are also covered.
